November 6-10, 2004 Mission statement
AbstractNCAR Scientific Computing Division’s Research Exhibit demonstrates leading-edge atmospheric research with interactive media. This presentation uses a combination of virtual reality, digital media and high-bandwidth networking to explore and display results from a broad spectrum of research efforts including; climate and global change, high resolution severe weather, wildfires, atmospheric chemistry, terrestrial and solar turbulence and more. We also provide emphasis on related emerging technologies including; large datasets from new simulation efforts, redistributed wavelet-based volume rendering, advances in the collaborations with ESMF project, VSTO and Blue Gene Lightning computer. AudienceWhile the exhibit is fostered in an environment of basic research and scientific analysis, it provides a sophisticated presentation venue of interest to diverse audiences. For physicists, biologists or mathematicians, it offers the opportunity to experience visually rich presentation of high-resolution simulations and observations of scientific date. For computational scientists, it provides a view into the world of large-scale simulation and emerging visualization, collaboration and a visual tour of earth system science and a glimpse into the virtual classroom of the future. Attendance: Estimated at 3,500 Venue and TrafficThe David L. Lawrence Convention Center is a brand new convention center opened in March 2003 with 236,900 square feet of column-free exhibit space with leading edge technological meeting facilities. The center is located near highly attended cultural and sporting events. The exhibit traffic and interest in the scientific collaborations we are previewing on the exhibit floor will draw many conference attendees. Exhibit InformationSCD’s booth is #131 located in the middle right part of the hall next to Lawrence Berkley National Lab and Argronne National Lab. The exhibit will remain 600 sq ft to allow displays and demonstrations of current scientific collaborations along with a small meeting area for staff and attendees.
